Katie Benson

Dr Katie Benson in Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Manchester and Associate Fellow at the RUSI Centre for Financial Crime and Security Studies. Katie's research focuses primarily on the role played by lawyers in the facilitation of money laundering and the criminal justice and regulatory responses to this. She has also conducted research on transnational corporate bribery, illicit markets, and organised crime. Katie was appointed to a UK-US Taskforce on the Transatlantic Response to Illicit Finance in 2021. Prior to entering academia, Katie worked as knowledge manager at the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency and as an intelligence analyst in UK law enforcement, and has worked with, or provided advisory/consultancy services to, various government bodies, law enforcement organisations, research institutions, and investigations. Katie co-directs the MSc in Financial Crime and Compliance in Digital Societies at the University of Manchester, in collaboration with the ICA.
